Loose Threshold Joint
Most Benchmark thresholds are a
two-piece assembly. If the joint
line between the two parts is loose
and rattles try injecting caulk into
the joint. Experienced workmen may
opt to try hammering along the joint
to deform the aluminum just enough
to tighten the fit, figure 15.
Detached Threshold
If the threshold seems to bounce or
deflect downward when stepped on, it
may be detached from the
sub-flooring. The adhesive bond may
have failed. If this is the case,
anchor the threshold to the subfloor
with several 11/2" self-tapping
screws, figure 16.
Countersink the screw holes so that
the screw heads will be flush with
the top of the threshold. If the
screws fail to engage, carefully
inspect the floor on both sides of
the door for signs of water damage.
If the flooring has rotted under the
door, this is a serious condition
and will require complete removal of
the door and frame unit. See
Section 7 for instructions.
